The EMS industry has seen significant changes in the available airways for patients needing positive pressure ventilation. For many years, the only option was to have an advanced life support provider place an endotracheal tube into the trachea.

Basic and advanced providers now have access to a wide range of non-visualized airways, including supraglottic airways. These airways have been shown to be safe and effective, and require less time for initial training and ongoing proficiency with the devices.
